Speeches ignore impending U.S. debt disaster No mention of fiscal gap estimated as high as $72 trillion

The first of the 77 million-strong Baby Boom generation will begin to retire in just four years. The economic consequences of this fact — as scary as they are foreseeable — are all but ignored by President Bush and Democratic challenger John Kerry, who discuss just about everything but the biggest fiscal challenge of modern times.
Yet whoever wins the 2004 race will become the first U.S. president to confront what sober-minded experts across the political spectrum describe as an impending "fiscal catastrophe" lying right around the corner.

If they just die off, maybe we could have some peace around in this planet at least for a little while.

It's not the American people. Not the Germans, not the Russians, not the french. Not the canadians...
The guilty, are the leaders, and those leaders,,, are supported, and financed by the elite, and none of them,, never need SEE, FIGHT, TASTE, or SOIL THEMSELVES in the wars they start, ....that some other poor sucker has to fight.

Americans are equally responsible of all this mess created by radical Christian mentally sick Bush because he is likable guy to elect in the previous election as well as in the comming election. Majority of these Americans are ignorant, illeterate fools who vote for a cadidate who is liar evil and a moron.

Almost 50% of US citizens eligble to vote don't bother to register. Of those who do register only 60% will bother to vote. Of those who vote almost 50% will believe they are voting for the lesser evil. What we have in effect is a system where 70% are powerless to change anything in the way it's set up. Peace.

Tet, You are about right. But, You forgot that, those who do vote. The Electoral College overides the State and the Individual. So, take that to the logical conclusion. 5% are in control. And they make all the money! We Sit, fight, die and are forgotten while they build thier decendent Family lines with Our Blood. Someday, There will be Peace, but it will begin here at home first. After alot more blood. :(

Don't blame the US voters - they did not vote Bush into this office and Michael Moores film shows it - the greater problem is that a war-mongering cabal are dictating world policy towards ever greater wars, and that will affect us all.
Face it - democracy is on the way out for the West!

Plus there are those who have commited crimes and had their voting rights taken away. With the electoral college system as it is, someone in Wyoming gets about 2 votes to my one in California. Peace.

People like Gokhale keep overlooking another option which Bush is demonstrating is the one he is going with. Discretionary spending in this country will not change for the military or homeland security because Bush is creating a fascist state. The youth of this country will not by and large HAVE a problem because they'll be too busy fighting in the various wars this administratition has planned for them. Those who are left behind and complain will of course be handled by homeland security.

I am an American citizen. Born and raised here. And you know, we had a dream. Unfortunately, you are all correct. The US is in decline. We have failed as a true democracy.
Like Nazi Germany, the world will have to clean up our mess. I sincerely believe that our mess will ultimately lead to another world war.
You are all correct in that the system here is totally controlled by the elite. But so too your countries. That is something all good people have in common. If there is one last good thing the US might serve to demonstrate, it is how democracies fail. And I hope other nations can learn from that as the US continues to deteriorate.
You are right about the electorial college overriding my vote. My vote does not really count and so I AM POWERLESS TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT OUR POLITICAL SITUATION! A democracy failed. The good people here, like the good people of Nazi Germany, can only do so much. As common citizens of this earth, I ask you to analyze our failure and to learn from it. A free people is a very worthy cause. And I hope someday that the early US (prior to the our Kennedy assisination) can serve as an example. We were at one time a good nation and I would hope to see that carries over to the rest of the world. But please learn from our mistakes these last 50 years. Put your greatest minds of social science to work on what caused our failure. But undoubtedly, other nations will have to support the UN in holding the US accountable. That is the worlds only hope. The correction will no more happen from within the US as it did Nazi Germany 60 years ago.
Know that if I must die as a citizen casuality here on US soil, I want you and the rest of the world to know that I will graciously accept that fate in seeing that a failed democracy does not rule the world. And just for the record, I did not vote for Bush. I come from a different family and German heritage. I would not wish that selfish, prideful, Hitlerish mentality on anyone. Rather, I follow the compassion and good will that was demonstrated by Christ. Not the one Bush claims to know, but the real Saviour. God bless the good people of America but not the elite corporate jackals who are destroying her.

Get rid of Fox News, Sky News and Murdoch's control for a start (US and UK). Back to smaller companies. Break up the news monopoly, then maybe people will see clearly again.
We are leaving our kids the biggest mess possible: high debts, no pension funds, high taxes, wars, contamination from depleted uranium, dirty water, GM crops and animals, emigrating industries and therefore jobs. And they have to pay for all this and their own families.
I am ashamed of our generation.

Actually, this was a really good reading. Self-assessment and the ability to see oneself as it is (in this case, say American government and democratic system) is the first sign of some healthy reflexion. Thanks to the American writers that gave me back some faith in some American people.... Keep it up and one by one, change will begin. If each one of you keeps a critical eye on what is happening and refuses to be brain-washed, hope is still possible... for all...
