Nothing is as mean looking at that baby!Glad that it's still in production in new versions. Does anyone know if the Russians are building a new Mi-24-like chopper? Something that isn't just a gunship but a transport chopper as the unique Mi-24 is?

is mostly off shore, no need to invade, they'll just blockade the well heads. A well thought out defensive plan (mine the sea floor around the wells to start) is reqired, with lots of SAMS (rhymes with alms) for the poor. Toss in a few thousand RPGs for good measure with artty batteries all through the mountains overlooking the oil fields and the oil stealin' colonial bastards may reconsider. 'May'. Who knows with the power hungry nut jobs currently wreaking havoc worldwide.
Viva la resistance.

well, you have this one, the MI-35. MI-35 is the new version of the MI-24.
the MI-28 and the KA-50 are new, but they don't transport troops.

Now, Russia will be able to further research and development of more advanced weapons with the money it makes by selling arms to Venezuela, Syria, and Iran.

This ability to transport a soldiers is a weakness of Mi 24, becouse that makes this chopper slower. Still it is superb to any Cobra, becouse it has exellent armour (witch is much more better in Mi 35).
Ka 50 is really unique too. This chopper shows a superb performance of Russians programmers: there is no others attack helicopters with one person crew. It is possible in Ka 50 becouse Russians fully automatized many functions, what makes Ka 50 very easy in drive and fight. Ka 50 were in Chechyna, where they caused many casualties.

Assurbanipal, I think that speed is not that big a deal, the 50 km/h difference wouldn't help much. I was thinking more about the multirole ability of the Hind that is unique. Sometimes cost or situation calls for a hybrid and why get one transport and one gunship when you can have 2 in one? And for insertion of troops and then being able to support them then I think that there is a place for such a beast. Besides, I thought that the Hind was very fast anyway.
Verve, the oil is the key but Venezuela still needs to protect itself from any invasion by US proxies from Colombia. Despite the 2 billion in aid the Colombians get, most of it must go to pay the generals to stay 'loyal' to the US backed regime as the actual Colombian military is pretty piss poor, made up of WW2-era light tanks and APC's along with a few Blackhawks. It exists merely to oppress the people and keep the wealthy in power. So getting a few Mi-35's and other such weapons has a disproportionate effect on the balance of forces, giving the Venezuelans a tool to cut up any invading force.
