US soldiers in Afghanistan
Two more US-led soldiers have been killed in separate incidents in war-weary Afghanistan, as the number of foreign forces casualties continues its upward trend.
NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement that one of the troopers was slain in a bomb attack in southern Afghanistan, where Operation Moshtarak is thrusting ahead.
ISAF says the other soldier was killed by small arms fire — also in the south.
The nationalities of the two soldiers have not been released. However, the fatalities are reportedly not related to the US-led offensive, which is being carried out in Helmand.
Operation Moshtarak was in Marjah launched on 13 February 2010, with the aim of eradicating Taliban militants there.
The operation has resulted in instability in the region triggering scarcity of essential supplies. The residents, who do not receive aid in a consistent and sufficient manner, are forces to flee risking being caught in cross-fire and the mine fields planted by militants.
While scores of Afghan civilians have lost their lives this year, at least 98 NATO troops have been killed in Afghanistan in 2010.
