The Administration of the US President Barack Obama is working on three options for the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq, CNN reported Monday citing unnamed Pentagon officials.
The decisions about the Iraq withdrawal and relocation of troops to Afghanistan have been delayed as the President wanted to consider more options. While his campaign promise was for pullout within 16 months, the Pentagon and the US Central Command are also crafting options for withdrawal in 19 or in 23 months.
According to the reports, Obama is not sticking to any particular time frame, and it is still unclear when he will make the final decision on the Iraq withdrawal.
At the same time, while the security situation in Afghanistan is deteriorating steadily, the US plans for sending additional troops there appear to have been delayed as well, CNN points out.
